I'm Coach Spartan. I run one-to-one and small-group personal training in Erdington. Outdoors in local parks, or with you at your own gym. Built around real bodies, real schedules, and the long game.
I'm Coach Spartan. Born in South East London, Brummie for the last ten years, dad of two young boys, and someone who knows what training around real life actually looks like.
I've spent the last decade getting busy people stronger, leaner, and pain-free. No gimmicks, no shake plans, no shouty boot-camp nonsense. Every programme I write is built around three things: what your body can do today, what your week actually looks like, and where you want to be in 12 weeks.
Then you get to work.
Whatever your starting point, the work is structured, measurable, and adjusted to you. Pick the description that sounds most like you.
New to training, returning after years off, or nervous about doing it wrong. I start you on movement quality and confidence, not on a leaderboard.
See Foundation packages →You want to lose body fat sustainably without crash diets. We build strength, layer in conditioning, and sort out the nutrition habits that actually stick.
See Build packages →You want to squat, press, deadlift and pull-up more. Progressive overload, technical coaching, the boring stuff that works.
See Build packages →Football, rugby, combat sport, running. Sport-specific conditioning, speed, power, and resilience work.
See Peak packages →Years off training, chronic lower-back niggles, stiff hips, or you just don't move like you used to. Slow, movement-led restart that respects what your body has been through.
See Restart packages →Perimenopause, menopause, post-menopause. Strength work to protect bone, hip, core and lower-back, in a setting that respects what your body's actually going through.
See Midlife packages →Every package starts with a free 30-minute intake. Movement screen, goal-setting, and an honest conversation about your week. Filter by intensity to see what fits your stage.
Prices below are starting points. Final cost depends on session length, frequency, and whether you train solo or in the Squad. Confirmed at your intake.
Best for: Beginners finding their feet or anyone returning after a long break.
Best for: Fat-loss and strength clients who want consistent, measurable change.
Best for: Athletes & advanced lifters chasing sport-specific gains.
Best for: Beginners who train better with company. 3-4 people, friendly pace.
Best for: clients coming back after a long break, working around chronic aches and stiffness, or rebuilding general fitness at a slower pace.
Not a rehab service. If you're post-op, post-injury or working through diagnosed conditions, please see your GP or physio first. I'm happy to pick up once you're cleared to train.
Best for: Perimenopausal and menopausal women who want to protect bone, hip, core and lower-back strength for the next 30 years.
Best for: Women 40+ who train better in good company. Same strength focus, smaller group, no twentysomethings doing burpees.
Best for: Strength & fat-loss clients who train solo but want a coach behind them.
Kettlebell circuits, conditioning, finishers, mat work, in a Birmingham gym studio or out on the grass at one of Erdington's local parks. Max four people per session, so everyone gets coaching eyes on every set. No hiding at the back, no rep-counting solo.
Rain plan: studio session goes ahead. Outdoor session in light drizzle, we still train. Heavy weather outside, we reschedule to another slot at no charge. You'll always know the night before.
If you're already paying for a gym, you don't need a second membership and you don't need to swap it for park sessions in the British weather. I'll meet you at your gym in Erdington or the surrounding area and run the session there.
This works particularly well for strength-building and midlife training where consistent access to specific equipment matters. Bring your day pass or guest pass; most chains (PureGym, The Gym Group, Bannatyne's, David Lloyd, Nuffield, council leisure centres) are fine with it. We'll confirm at intake.

Perimenopause, menopause, post-menopause. Hot flushes, joint ache, broken sleep, stubborn middle-weight, a back that suddenly grumbles when you pick up the shopping. None of it is in your head, and none of it means you should be doing tap-backs in a glorified aerobics class.
The single biggest thing the research keeps coming back to is strength training. It protects bone density, keeps the hips and core stable, takes the strain off the lower back, and helps with body composition in a way that cardio alone won't.
I pace sessions for what your body's actually doing this week. No jumping if your pelvic floor isn't up for it. No shame if energy's low. Loads adjusted, never apologised for. The aim: be properly strong at 55, 65, 75.
I'm not a menopause specialist and won't pretend to be. I'm a strength coach who works with midlife women regularly and keeps up with the research. If you have a specific medical condition, we'll work with your GP or physio, not around them.

Most people who come back to training after a long break do one of two things: pick up exactly where they left off and hurt themselves in week two, or stop showing up because the first session felt brutal. The Restart Block is built to avoid both.
First session is low-impact, low-load. Ground work, mobility, the kind of movements that wake up what's gone quiet. From there we add weight slowly, and we only push the gear up when last week genuinely felt fine. No heroics. No grinding through pain. The point is that you're still training in week 12, not knocked out by week 3.
Not a rehab service. If you're post-op, post-injury, or managing a diagnosed condition, please see your GP or physio first. I'm happy to pick up once you're cleared to train.
Book a free intakeDrop your details below or WhatsApp me directly. I'll come back within 24 hours (usually faster) with a short intake form to fill in.
30-minute chat in person or on the phone: goals, history, injuries, schedule. A movement screen if you're up for it.
You get a written programme matched to your client type and the right intensity tier. No guesswork.
Start the work. Monthly check-ins, measurements when relevant, programme adjusted as you progress.
Not a leaderboard, not before-and-after shock photos. Real clients turning up week after week and getting properly stronger. Some at the gym, some in the park, all on their own terms.
Typical first measurable change
Lifts up, weight down, fewer aches. Most clients see the real shift around the 3-month mark, not week two.
Stay past the first block
Most clients renew at the end of their first 6 or 8 sessions because the work is actually working.
Numbers reflect typical client experience to date. Your own pace will vary. We set realistic markers at your free intake.
Lost 12 kg in six months and finally squat without my knee whingeing. Coach Spartan just gets it. No fads, just steady work.
Years of a stiff back and barely training. Coach Spartan started me on the basics and rebuilt my confidence to lift properly again. I move better at 47 than I did at 37.
Pre-season at the rugby club has never felt this sharp. Speed work, conditioning, the lot, and zero injuries this year.
Note: I'm rebuilding the testimonial wall with quotes from current clients. If you've trained with me and are happy for me to use a short line, drop it on WhatsApp.
Yes. The Starter Block and Spartan Squad are both built for absolute beginners. I assume no prior gym experience and start you on the basics: how to move, breathe, and load safely.
Two options, and you can mix and match: outdoors in Erdington's local parks (we'll confirm which one when you book), or at your own gym if you're already a member somewhere. I'll travel to most gyms in Erdington, Sutton Coldfield, Aston and the surrounding area.
Not at all. Park sessions don't need one. I bring the kit. If you'd rather train indoors and don't have a gym, most chains sell affordable day passes (PureGym from around £6, The Gym Group similar) and we can use those without committing to a membership.
Light drizzle, we train through it. It's Britain, you'll be fine. Heavy weather and the session reschedules to another slot, no charge, or moves to your gym if you've got one. You'll always know the night before.
Yes, and honestly. I'm not a menopause specialist and won't pretend to be. What I do have is years of coaching women through midlife: programming around joint pain, energy crashes, pelvic-floor concerns, and bone-density goals. Sessions are paced for the day you're having, not the day you wish you were. If you're on HRT, working with a menopause GP, or seeing a women's-health physio, I'll happily coordinate with them.
Yes. The Remote Build package is fully online with custom programmes, weekly video form reviews and direct WhatsApp access. Good for anyone outside Birmingham or who travels for work.
Not directly. I'm a personal trainer, not a physio. If you're working through an injury, recovering from surgery, or managing a diagnosed condition, please see your GP or physio first. Once you're cleared to train, I'm happy to pick up. For chronic aches, stiffness, or coming back after years off, the Restart Block is built exactly for that.
24 hours' notice means the session moves to another slot, no charge. Inside 24 hours it counts as used, except for medical reasons, which I always work around.
30 minutes, no obligation, no upsell. You'll leave with an honest read on where you are, and the first step toward where you want to be.
Tell me a bit about you and I'll come back within 24 hours with a short intake form.
